The key to building a strong body is building a strong back. And one of the best lower back exercises that you can do is the hyper extension. This move isolates the lower back muscles, spinal erectors, glutes, and hamstrings.
The great thing about the hyper extension is that it works the back through a full range of motion. You can start with the basic hyper extension variation using your bodyweight and then progress through more advanced variations as your back strength improves.
Building up the lower back is a critical part of developing a strong core. When your core is strong this in turn will help to carry over into all your other exercises as well. A strong lower back will help improve your deadlift, your squat, all overhead pressing exercises, as well as your overall strength in general.
